According to research by Industrial Info Resources located in Sugarland, Texas, Carpenter Technology Corporation began site preparation for a new specialty steel mill in Alabama.  Carpenter Technology Corporation, headquartered in Reading, Pennsylvania, chose to build the $500 million mill in Tanner, Alabama based on favorable labor resources, utility rates and tax incentives.
