We're putting in a built in pool and I've got to move a lot of concrete and dirt. What size excavator should I use?

Well, there are
excavators and
mini excavators. Both can do the job of digging, moving and lifting. And depending on the attachments you choose, they can both be very versatile. The main difference between an excavator and a mini-excavator is obviously size. There are other differences, the depth to which the excavator can dig, the amount of fuel it uses and difficulty in operation.
But it sounds to me like a mini-excavator will do the job for you since I venture to guess that the pool will be in a residential area and you will need to maneuver the machine on your property. Another reason I suggest a mini-excavator is that they can surely dig to the depth you need for a pool. Some mini-excavators can dig past 12 feet. So that shouldn’t be an issue.
You also mentioned moving concrete. A mini-excavator can also be fitted with a jackhammer to break up concrete. You may want to look into renting that attachment. And enjoy your built in pool!
