I’m sure you already know what it is. The blade is just another word for a motor grader.  Some people refer to them as ‘the blade’ because of the long blade that is used to flatten surfaces.
 
You must be getting ready to lay the asphalt because a motor grader (or blade) is usually used to flatten and prepare the road surface prior to that step.
 
In case you hear them refer to a maintainer or a road grader – don’t break a sweat.  Those are other terms used for motor graders.  And don’t be surprised if you hear someone use the term this winter.  Motor graders are also used in some states for snow removal.
