Construction Unemployment Falls In July

I read an interesting article on the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Web site about unemployment in the construction industry. The good news is that job losses in our field have slowed. According to the ABC article, “July’s construction unemployment rate declined to 17.3 percent, down from 18.2 percent last year.”   But we still have a long way to go. The ABC article quoted a loss in the national nonresidential building construction sector of 1,800 jobs in July – numbers derived from the Department of Labor employment report. But there was a gain of 8,000 nonresidential specialty trade contractors in July.  The residential construction sector also shed 9,900 jobs last month.    For more information on July’s numbers log on to the ABC site at: http://www.abc.org/Hot_Links/ConstructionEconomicsIndex/Employment_August2010.aspx
