Day 1:  LOOK UP!
One of the first main principles when operating a BOOM is having the EYES TO SEE your surroundings.  Knowing your surroundings and doing a visual walk-around prior to each work day is a safe and effective way to eliminate any hazard opportunities.   Earlier this year in WIldwood, N.J., a painter was injured when the scissor he was operating made contact with a high-voltage power line on his painting job site.  In addition to cutting the power to the surrounding blocks, emergency response teams arrived to find the 62-year old male painter elevated in the lift 20' from the ground and suffering from severe chest pains.  The contractor was taken to the local cardiac unit for evaluation.  This incident stresses the importance of having VISION from the PLATFORM.
