Volvo Rents has recently opened two new company-stores, and made two recent rental store acquisitions.  

 

If you’re in Braintree, Massachusetts, you’ll be hearing more about us.  We opened a new company-owned rental center there. The new center will join the Southborough and Haverhill locations and will service all of the Boston market.

 

Another company-owned rental center was recently opened in Englewood, Colorado.

The Englewood center is Volvo Rents’ third in the state of Colorado – joining locations in Colorado Springs and Longmont.

As many of you, I watched the State of the Union address Tuesday during which President Obama made some very specific comments about the construction industry. It was good to hear that the current Administration is looking to our industry to spur overall economic growth.

 

I’m sure we will all be waiting to see exactly what President Obama signs that expedites construction projects. His recognition that the construction industry was one of the hardest hit during the crisis, and willingness to use part of the money we no longer spend at war to fund construction projects, could mean many construction professionals will be back at work.

I read some encouraging news in the ABC Construction Economic Update today.  According to the article published in the release, the January 18 Producer Price Index report by the U.S. Department of Labor reported that, construction materials prices have decreased 0.2 percent in December.  This is good new for our industry since with lower materials prices, more construction projects should be on the horizon.

 

According to Associated Builders and Contractors Chief Economist, Anirban Basu, the construction materials decline is tied to America’s status as the “the world’s largest and most important safe haven for capital.”
